Banner Vinyl Weight
Ounces: For vinyl banners, the material is typically measured in ounces, based on a square yard of material. For example, standard banner vinyl is 13 ounces, meaning a square yard weighs 13 ounces. The larger the number, the heavier the vinyl.
Pressure Sensitive Vinyl (PSV) Thickness
mils: For pressure sensitive vinyls, the material is typically measured in thousandths of an inch called a mil (.001 inch). It is a typical manufacturing dimension. For example, 30 mil (30 divided by 1,000 = .030) is about the thickness of a credit card.
Paper – Caliper/Point (pt)
Caliper/Point (pt): Refers to the thickness of an individual sheet of paper (in thousandths of an inch). This measurement is taken with a micrometer and typically should not have more than a + or – 5% variance within a sheet. Do not confuse type point with caliper point. Type point describes the height of a particular font; caliper point describes paper thickness.
