Why We Cannot Use CMYK Values For Color Matching
- The same CMYK setup will print different colors on different printers
- The same CMYK setup will print different colors on different materials
- Your computer monitor does not match any printer. If you pull CMYK values from a color at this point, the chances of us matching are almost zero.
- Your customer may have provided a CMYK setup based on them printing the file. This will not work because:
- Different press
- Different ink
- Different material
The good news is that the Pantone Matching System(PMS) Pantone 485 swatch in your customers PMS book appears the same as the Pantone 485 in our PMS book. It does not matter what the CMYK values are as long as our printed color matches the Pantone 485. If you would like more information check out our Lab articles on color.
